Omama Japanese Cooking #7 – Onigiri

Japanese cooking with Tomoko. This time she makes onigiri (rice balls) with salmon flakes inside. She also shows how to wash and prepare rice using a rice cooker.

    and when washing the rice, wash it to the point where the water it is in is ALMOST clear. If it is clear, the rice will be too dry, if it is milky and opaque, the rice will be too wet and mushy and sticky.

    Use a “cutting” or “folding” motion when handeling the rice, don’t mix it all around and smoosh the grains. Also to ensure that the rice doesn’t become mushy, during the last several minutes of cooking, put a kitchen cloth over the pot or rice cooker you are cooking with to absorb the excess moisture in the rice. Hope this helps =]

    it just has to be cool enough for you to handle it. so warm to the touch should be fine.

    make sure you use SHORT GRAIN(SUSHI) Rice. I failed miserably with long grain. good luck :D

    my question is do you make it when comes out of the rice cooker or let it cool for a while? and if so how long?

    meh were to fat americans to fall down that LOL jk, you might cooked the rice to long or to much liquid happen to mine a few times, also it could be the rice it self.

    Lol, look at the size of the drain! You could fall down that.

    Anyway, i tried making these earlier, and mine turned out too salty. I think i added too much salt by mistake :( The rice was also a bit mushy.

    haha extacy is dope[not the drug] that tripped me out so much we i first tried it al i did was like sit down and watch the wall trip me out, and mrijuana makes me laugh so much it gave me a full set of abs haha literally
